Snout Beetle (Curculionidae) / (Kumbang Moncong)

Curcolionidae is the family of snout beetle. It has a long snout and antennas. The adult beetle ranges from 1 mm to 40 mm. This insect is often called boll weevil (kumbang yang bertelur di buah kapas) since it lays eggs and eats inside the boll of a cotton plant. Once it lives in the plant, it will destroy it. It is also the main enemy of Dendrobium orchid. Snout beetle has a complete four stage metamorphosis : egg, larvae, cocoon and adult beetle. Snout beetle can be found in all tropical forests.

Cahaya Utara adalah cahaya alami yang terjadi di langit. Baiasanya terjadi pada malam hari di daerah Kutub Utara dan Kutub Selatan. Cahaya Utara juga dikenal dengan nama aurora borealis. Aurora dinamakan menurut dewi Fajar dari Romawi, sedangkan borealis berasal dari bahasa Yunani yang berarti angin utara. Jika terjadi di selatan, aurora ini disebut aurora australis. Australis berasal dari bahasa Latin yang berarti selatan.
Aurora borealis umumnya terlihat pada bulan September hingga Oktober dan dari bulan Maret hingga April. Aurora borealis biasanya dapat dilihat di daerah kepulauan di sebelah utara Canada. Jika di daerah kutub, aurora terlihat sangat tinggi di langit. Tapi bila dilihat dari tempat yang lebih jauh, aurora menyinari garis lagit dengan kilau kehijauan atau kemerahan. Kelihatannya seolah-olah matahari terbit dari arah yang lain.
Aurora terjadi karena interaksi antara area magnet bumi dan angin dari matahari. Angin dari matahari ini mengandung partikel. Partikel ini sebagian besar adalah elektron. Elektron dalam angin ini kemudian turun ke area magnet bumi. Pertemuan inilah yang menghasikan aurora. Jika angin mengandung lebih banyak oksigen, aurora akan berwarna hijau atau merah. Jika angin ini sebagian besar adalah nitrogen, maka cahayanya akan berwarna merah muda, biru, atau ungu.
Benjamin Franklin adalah orang pertama yang memperkenalkan aurora ke banyak orang. Aurora terhebat yang pernah dicatat dalam sejarah adalah yang terjadi pada tahun 1859. Aurora pada saat itu sangat terang sehingga orang bisa membaca di malam hari tanpa bantuan cahaya lampu. Tenaga listrik yang dihasilkan juga sangat besar hingga orang-orang yang bekerja pada malam itu bisa mematikan tenaga listrik mereka dan mendapatkan tenaga dari aurora.
Aurora Borealis, atau juga dikenal sebagai Northern Light (Cahaya Utara), adalah fenomena yang timbul dari aksi reaksi antara partikel dan molekul di magnetosfer dan atmosfer, menghasilkan pergerakan cahaya menari-nari yang indah di langit malam. Fenomena ini hanya bisa timbul di daerah yang mendekati kutub utara bumi.
